Portfolio Day: Pulchri Studio x Stroom
Date: Saturday 11 April 2026
Location: Pulchri Studio, Lange Voorhout 15, 2514 EL – The Hague, Taveerne Hall
On 11 April, Pulchri Studio and Stroom will organise the second edition of Portfolio Day for fourteen artists based in The Hague, aimed at makers in the first ten years of their career. The day focuses on deepening professional practice and encouraging dialogue between emerging and established artists. The event is coordinated by Gabriela Acha as part of The Year of Young Art. Participation is free.
WHO IS IT FOR?
This programme is intended for emerging artists of any nationality who are based in The Hague and working within the first 10 years of their career. Participants should be willing to:
• Receive constructive feedback on their work
• Engage in conversations about their ideas, practice and future plans
• Build connections and develop a network with peers in the art world
Each selected artist will have two individual meetings (approx. 30 minutes each) with experienced art professionals. Portfolios can be presented digitally (on a laptop, tablet or phone), or through physical works or printed material that demonstrates the artistic process.
REVIEWERS
Ed van der Kooy (visual artist and Chairman Pulchri Studio), Jessy Rahman (visual artist and co-founder of Quartair), Tanja Engelberts (visual artist) en Yke Prins (visual artist).
Ed van der Kooy – Born in The Hague in 1956, Ed van der Kooy is an established Dutch painter and current Chairman of Pulchri Studio. After studying at the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague), his career became defined by a fascination with Eastern cultures, particularly Nepal and China. His work has been widely exhibited across Asia and Europe.
Jessy Rahman – Jessy Rahman is a visual artist, curator and one of the founders of Quartair. His working method is often shaped by the specific situation of a place, frequently abroad and in unconventional contexts. He works with a wide range of techniques, including drawing, painting, graphic and spatial work, as well as unconventional methods he has made his own. His interest in dance, theatre and music also leads him towards performance. Playfulness and humour are key elements in his work.
Tanja Engelberts – Tanja Engelberts reflects on landscapes shaped by the fossil fuel industry: how this industry transforms environments and what remains after resources are depleted. Through field research she creates films, prints, texts and sound works. She completed a residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, published Forgotten Seas, and has exhibited nationally and internationally at leading museums and festivals worldwide.
Yke Prins – Yke Prins trained as a sculptor in The Hague and Switzerland. She collaborates with sculpture gardens across Europe. Through her monumental sculptures she explores the relationship between humans and nature using an abstract visual language. She has long been involved with Pulchri Studio (Chair 2008–2011) and is Vice-Chair of the European Sculpture Network.
