The exhibition My Little Paradise reflected on the tension between private and public, the boundaries of personal and psychological space, voluntary isolation, and involuntary exclusion. With the addition of the former Hortiflora flower garden in Nachtegalenpark, the Middelheim Museum gained a new museum site last year: a formally landscaped garden. The landscape design evokes the motif of the Hortus Conclusus, the enclosed garden that has been laden with meaning in Western art history and literature since the Middle Ages.
